FOUNDER

Gondia Education Society was founded by Late Shri Manoharbhai Patel, great philanthropist, social worker and a true Gandhian in the year 1958. As a matter of fact, India in post-independence era needed to develop in all walks of life. At this juncture, Gandhiji invited people with good economic standing like industrialists to be the custodian of the society and to spend their money for the welfare of the society in general and education in particular because he believed, “Education should be so revolutionized as to answer the wants of the poorest villager, instead of answering those of an imperial exploiter.” Late Shri Manoharbhai Patel, being a true Gandhian joined this noble venture of nation- building with his few trusted friends and decided to spread education among the poorest of the poor of east Vidarbha region.

Keeping a farsighted vision, Late Shree Manoharbhai Patel meticulously established the Gondia Education Society with Natwarlal Maniklal Dalal College of Arts and Commerce and a host of schools. Subsequently, the need for catering higher education in science was adequately felt and Dhote Bandhu Science College as a prominent tributary of the society was pioneered for the poor and underprivileged people of this region in 1969.
